I shall try to get the ball going :)
Oct. 25th, 2019 07:43 pmHello,
I am a part of what I think as the middle-wave of slash fandom: I joined it in the post-fanzines and in the early days of ML and archives era.
I always loved to interact and discuss with fellow fans and I went to EU slash conventions when I could (Red Rose, anyone?).
I sort of "lost it" with LJ, because everything became decentralized and it became, to me, impossible having meaningful conversations about fandom.
It got worse with Tumblr but now I realize I miss the chat, the debate...
I pop into the Archive, read some fiction and that's it, I skirt away from the ever present flames that apparently plague fandom nowadays.
99% of my RL friends I met online talking about slash (not necessarily H/W in their many incarnations), so to me socializing with fellow fans is relevant.
So, I was wondering, is there some sort of dunno, secret place where people go and chat and make friends, eventually?

Date: 2019-11-03 11:26 pm (UTC)Reddit can be pretty hit and miss, depending on the community, and can draw a certain level of trollish behavoir. I, admittedly, only engage in a handful of communities there and those all have a pretty strong mod presence.
Unfortunately, the only H/W friendly community on Reddit that I know of is (and it's not that lively these days): https://www.reddit.com/r/Sherlock_Fanfiction/
The main Sherlock community is both anti-fanfic and anti-H/W so I rarely go there but it has a lot of discussion if you want to check it out: https://www.reddit.com/r/SherlockHolmes/
I haven't had any luck finding a SH-oriented Discord. =/
That said, you can always start a discussion here on the community. I know I'd be happy to interact with other fans. It seems like the community went dead there for a while.

The H/W fandom went crazy for a while with the Gatiss & Moffat series, but it's been some years and so the hype died down.
Moreover, lots of the new fans were fans of the new series but not interested in the other Holmeses or fans of Benedict Cumberbatch per se. Not a bad thing, he did a great job with his Sherlock, IMHO, and I saw him at the theatre doing (an admittedly sherlock-ish) Victor Frankenstein and Hamlet, but there's a limited number of times I can talk about how brilliant he can be. :)
